Gammon

Life here in Sarli Khurd is a lot different from the big cities. We are out in the Khadoor Sahib area of Taran Taaran, and it’s mostly quiet except for the tractors and the birds. Being Gammon in a village setting means everyone knows who we are and where we sit. Our place is simple. We don't have much need for fancy signs or big glass windows. The walls are sturdy and they keep the heat out during those long Punjab summers. In the winter, it gets quite chilly, so we keep the tea pot going all day long. Most of our days are spent talking to people from the nearby villages who stop by for one thing or another. We don't follow a strict corporate schedule like they do in Delhi or Mumbai. Things happen when they happen. The road out here isn't always the smoothest, but it gets you where you need to go. We have grown used to the pace of things in this part of the district. It’s honest work and it’s a practical way to live. Sometimes we just sit outside for a few minutes to look at the fields before getting back to the ledgers. It is a good place to be if you like knowing your neighbors and having space to breathe. We don’t need much else to be happy with the work we do. It's just home.
