Military Hospital Gurdaspur

172 Military Hospital Gurdaspur is located out near Ghazipur. It’s a bit of a drive to get there, but it is a solid place once you arrive. The building is 172 Military Hospital, and it has that look of a place that has been through a lot of winters. Gurdaspur can get really cold, so we spend a lot of time trying to keep the drafts out of the wards. The windows are old and sometimes they rattle when the wind picks up. Most of the people coming in are soldiers from the nearby border areas. They usually arrive pretty tired and just want a warm bed and some decent food. I work in the kitchen and the supply room mostly. We go through a lot of dal and rice every single day. The area around Ghazipur is mostly fields, so it’s pretty quiet at night, except for the occasional vehicle passing by. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls. It is just plain paint and lots of notices about duty rosters. The doctors are young and usually stay for a couple of years before moving on. It feels like a small community here because we are a bit isolated. We look out for each other. Whether it’s a broken bone or just a bad flu, we deal with it as it comes. It isn't a glamorous job, but it is necessary for the guys out here.
