About Om Ganpati Leather – Fashion & Trends in Chandannagar
Our shop is located at No. 59 in Kalupukur Kumar Para. It’s a quiet spot compared to the main city, which suits us just fine. We work with leather, and the whole place has that strong, earthy smell of raw hides. We’ve been here for a long time, and the building itself is quite old with some cracks in the plaster, but it serves us well. We make basic leather goods like belts and bags. It is mostly manual work. We use heavy shears and old-fashioned needles to get through the thick material. It’s tough on the hands and my fingers are usually a bit sore by the end of the week. We have a couple of workbenches that are scarred from years of cutting. We aren't a big factory; it's just a few of us who know how to handle leather properly. We don't spend money on advertising or fancy signs. Most people find us because their father or uncle told them about our work. We take our time with each piece because leather doesn't like to be rushed. In the afternoons, we sit on the stools and have some tea while the leather dries or the glue sets. It is a steady, slow kind of life, and we aren't looking to change much. We just want to keep making things that last for a long time.
