Gowda Brick Industry

Abilash runs the day to day things here at Gowda Brick Industry. We are located in Arepalya village, which is part of the Kollegal area in Chamarajanagar. Abilash is the son of Kempegowda, so it has been in the family for some time. Our work is pretty simple but it takes a lot of hours out under the sun. We make bricks for all the local construction around the district. The soil here is good for what we do. Sometimes the machinery breaks down and we have to spend the whole afternoon fixing it with whatever tools we have on hand. It gets pretty messy with the mud and the water, but that is the only way to get the mix right. We have a small crew of guys from the surrounding villages. They know the routine and they show up early. We don't do much advertising because people just know where we are. If you drive through Arepalya, you will see the tall stacks of red bricks. We don't have a receptionist or a website. If someone needs a load, they usually just show up and talk to Abilash directly. It is a loud and dusty place but we are used to it by now. The seasons dictate when we can work the most. Winter is usually the busiest time for us when the ground is dry. We just focus on the job and getting the orders loaded onto the trailers when they arrive.
