Venglai Secondary School

Down in Venglai, here in Champhai, our school, Venglai Secondary School, is a part of the daily life of the neighborhood. The air is usually cool, and you can see the hills from the windows if the clouds aren't too low. Students come from all over this part of town, walking up the hilly paths to get to their classes on time. It’s a secondary school, so the kids are a bit older, which means they spend a lot of time worrying about their exams and hanging out near the entrance during their free periods. The classrooms are simple with wooden benches that have seen a lot of use over the years. We don't have a big fancy office; it's mostly just some desks and shelves full of old registers and textbooks. The teachers live nearby, so you often see them at the market or walking home after the last bell. It’s a quiet life compared to the big cities, but we like it that way. The roof sometimes leaks a little when the rain gets really heavy during the monsoon, but we just move the desks around and keep going. Lunchtime is when the place really feels alive, with everyone sharing their food and talking. It’s just a local school where everyone knows everyone else’s business, and we do what we can to keep the classes running smoothly every day of the week.
