Brightway English School

Brightway English School is tucked away in the Venglai area of Champhai, and it feels a bit like a second home to many of us who work here. We are located right in the middle of the community, so there’s always someone passing by the gates or saying hello. The school focuses quite a bit on English, which can be a bit of a struggle for some of the younger ones when they first start, but they get the hang of it eventually. You can hear them reciting their lessons through the open windows when it’s quiet outside in the morning. The building is painted a bright color, though it’s started to fade a bit from the sun and the rain. We have a small staff room where we sit and have tea while talking about how the classes are going that day. It’s not a huge place, just a few blocks of classrooms and a small area for the kids to run around during their break. Every morning starts with the assembly, where everyone stands in lines, trying to look neat and tidy. Some of the kids come from quite far away, so they arrive a bit tired, but once they see their friends, they cheer up. We have a lot of old books in the library that the kids like to look through. It’s a simple setup, really. No big gadgets, just chalkboards and notebooks. We just try to get the work done.
