Down in Tanakpur, we have our office at Verma Line, Ward Number 3. It's a small part of Champawat, and things move a bit slower up here in the hills of Uttarakhand. Shaaransh India Nidhi Limited is what we call ourselves, but most people just call us by our names. The air is always fresh here, though it gets quite cold in the winter months. We usually have a small heater running in the corner of the office when the frost starts. Our work is simple—we help people keep their savings safe. Most of our members are farmers or run small shops nearby. We know their families and they know ours. It is not a formal place where you have to dress up. You can just walk in with your muddy boots after working in the fields and we will sit down and talk. The address is easy to remember once you find Verma Line. We’ve been here in this same spot for a good while. Sometimes the phone line acts up because of the weather, but we are always here in person. It’s a quiet life, but we like being helpful to the community. We don’t have big slogans or mission statements. We just show up every morning and open the doors for our friends and neighbors who need a hand with their finances. It’s just us doing what needs to be done for the folks living in the valley.
