S M V Rice Mills

Our mill is located in Baba Pir Colony, right near the Post Office in Sirhind. If you know where the Sirhind Railway Station is, we are just a short walk away from there. You can actually hear the trains passing by all day long while we are working inside. It is a noisy place between the trains and our own rice processing machines running. We handle a lot of paddy here throughout the year. The sacks come in on big trailers and we have to stack them high in the warehouse area. It is heavy work and it keeps us on our feet for most of the day. The colony is a good spot for us because it is close to everything we need for the business. We spend our days watching the hulling process and making sure the rice is cleaned of any dirt. Sirhind is a major hub for this kind of work, so we are always kept busy. Sometimes the dust from the rice husks gets everywhere, but we just sweep it all out at the end of the day. We do not have a big corporate setup, just a small desk near the front where we handle the paper receipts for the farmers. Most of our workers live nearby in the colony or just across the railway tracks. We have been running things this way for many years now. When the railway whistle blows in the morning, we know it is time to start the machines.
