Veekay General Store

Our store is at 13/2450 on Roshanara Road. It’s been there for years, a typical general store where you can find a bit of everything. We keep pulses, soaps, biscuits, and all the daily stuff a kitchen needs. It’s a bit of a squeeze inside because we try to stock as much as we can. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. They don't even have to tell us what they want half the time; we already know which brand of tea they like. It’s not a supermarket. You ask for what you need over the counter and we get it for you. Sometimes the delivery truck is late and we run out of something, but that’s just life. We don't have a computer system or anything, just a notebook and a pen for keeping track of things. It works fine for us. Roshanara Road is always busy, so there’s a lot of noise from outside, but inside it’s just the usual grocery talk. We open early so people can get milk and bread before work. It’s a simple life, running a shop like this. We aren't looking to expand or do anything big. We just want to keep the neighbors supplied with what they need every day. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in and we have to shoo it out, but it’s all part of the day. It's just a local shop for local people.
