If you have ever been to Chandni Chowk in New Delhi, you know how crowded the lanes are. Our shop, Udhhyog, is tucked away in Chhatta Sufi Gali. It’s on the ground floor, which is good because carrying stuff up stairs in this heat is a nightmare. Central Delhi has this specific energy that you don't find anywhere else. The shop is small, just at Shop No. 3, but we have been in this area for quite a bit. Every morning starts with opening the shutters and sweeping the dust off the front. We get a lot of people walking past on their way to the main market. The walls are lined with whatever we happen to be selling at the time. It is a very hands-on kind of place. We don’t have fancy desks or a waiting room. It is just a counter and some chairs. The noise from the street is always there, but after a few hours, you don't even notice it. Sometimes we share a tea with the neighbors when business is slow. Life in the Gali is predictable but busy. We handle our daily tasks one by one and try to get home before the evening rush becomes impossible. It is a simple setup in a very old part of the city. We just do our work and keep things going as best as we can without overcomplicating things or making promises we can't keep for our daily visitors.
