The Wicker Age

The Wicker Age is based in J-3/282 on the second floor of the DDA Flats in Kalkaji. If you’re looking for us, we’re right across from the church and quite close to the Alaknanda Market, not too far from the old Agra Hotel. Being on the second floor means we have to carry quite a bit of stock up and down the stairs, which keeps us pretty tired by the end of the week. Wicker items take up a lot of room, so the flat often feels a bit crowded with chairs and baskets everywhere you look. It’s a residential area, so it feels a bit more relaxed than the big commercial markets, though Alaknanda Market is always busy. We spend a lot of time checking the weaves on the pieces and making sure nothing is coming loose. It’s dusty work, and sometimes our hands get pretty scratched up from handling the materials all day. We don’t have a big fancy showroom, just this space where we keep our stock and talk to people who come by to see what we have. The light in the flat is actually quite nice in the afternoons, which helps when we’re inspecting things. It’s just a small operation here in Kalkaji, and we’ve been in this spot for a while now, getting to know the neighbors and the local delivery guys who help us move the bigger items.
