The Express Building at ITO is where we spend our lives. We’re at 9 and 10 Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, which is a street that has always been about newspapers. You can almost feel the history in the walls here at The Indian Express Ltd. It’s not a shiny new office block with fancy decor. It’s a working building, and it shows. There’s always a bit of a rush going on, especially as the day goes forward and the deadlines start to get closer. We don't have a lot of time for corporate polish. The floors are a bit worn, and there’s always the sound of people talking or phones ringing in the background. We aren't here to give people a sales pitch; we’re just here to do the work that needs to be done. It’s a lot of long hours and sometimes the tea is the only thing keeping us going. We’ve been at this address for decades, and while the city around us has changed a lot, the vibe in this building stays pretty much the same. It’s a gritty, real place where we don't worry too much about appearances. We just focus on getting the pages out and making sure the information is correct. It’s a practical, no-nonsense environment, and that’s exactly how we like it. We have our routines and we stick to them because they work for us in this busy city.
