Sumaiyah Distributor

Sumaiyah Distributor is located on the second floor of 4228/1 on Ansari Road in Darya Ganj. This area is the center of the book trade in Delhi, so there is always something happening outside. Being on the second floor means we are a bit removed from the noise of the street, but the stairs are quite a workout if you’re carrying heavy bundles. Our space is mostly taken up by tall stacks of books and cardboard boxes. It’s a distribution point, so it’s not set up like a library or a pretty shop. We spend most of our time dealing with invoices, checking stock levels, and getting shipments ready to go out. The windows are usually open to let in some air, though you also get the smell of street food and the sound of horns. We have a couple of old fans that keep the air moving, but it gets pretty warm in the afternoon. It’s a no-nonsense kind of place. We don't have fancy furniture or a reception area. Just desks, computers, and thousands of books waiting to be sent to their next destination. We know the other people on Ansari Road, and it’s a tight-knit community of workers and traders. Most days are long and involve a lot of counting and double-checking lists. It’s a steady rhythm that we’ve gotten used to over the years. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure the orders are right.
