You can find Sondhi Batteries at 33/34 in Hokhale Market, right in the Civil Lines area. It’s a bit of a crowded spot, especially with all the vehicles coming through. The shop is full of batteries of all sizes. They are heavy things, so moving them around keeps us pretty tired by the end of the day. It smells a bit like lead and plastic in here, which you get used to after a while. We spend a lot of time checking charges and making sure everything is ready for whoever walks in. The market is always loud. There’s always someone honking or a delivery truck blocking the way. We’ve been at this location for years. My father used to sit in the same chair I do now. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we never seem to find the time. We mostly deal with car batteries and some for home backups. It’s straightforward work. If someone’s car won’t start, they come here. We don’t use any big fancy machines, just the old testers that still work fine. Most of our day is spent talking to drivers or people from the neighborhood. It’s a honest living. We keep a stash of biscuits for the tea break in the afternoon. That’s usually the quietest part of our day before the evening rush starts.
