Sachdeva General Store

Sachdeva General Store is right at 5090 in the Paharganj Main Bazar. If you’ve ever walked through the bazaar, you know how crazy it gets with all the backpackers and the rickshaws. Our shop is small, but we try to pack as much as we can onto the shelves. We sell everything from soap and snacks to small household items. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once. I’ve been sitting behind the counter here for years, watching the world go by. The ceiling is high, but we’ve got boxes stacked all the way up, so it feels cozy. We don't have fancy barcodes or scanners; we just know the prices by heart. Sometimes we have to hunt for a specific brand of biscuits if it’s tucked behind something else. The noise from the street never really stops, but after a while, you don't even hear the horns anymore. We open early so people can get what they need before work, and we stay open until the last of the crowds starts to thin out. It’s a family-run thing, so there’s always someone around to help. We don't do any delivery or anything like that. People just come in, get their stuff, and we have a little chat. It’s the way things have always been done in the Main Bazar, and we don’t see any reason to change it now. It’s a simple life but it keeps us involved with the community.
