Raw Silk Enterprises

Raw Silk Enterprises is tucked away in the Kanishka Shopping Plaza on Ashoka Road. If you know the area, it’s right there where things always feel a bit hurried. Our shop, number 11, is where we keep all the silk. It’s a specific kind of work, dealing with raw silk because it has that rough texture and natural look that you don't find in the shiny stuff. We spend our mornings checking the latest arrivals from the weavers. There is always a lot of dust in the air when you handle fabric all day, but you get used to it. The plaza itself has seen better days, but it’s home to us. We have customers who have been coming to see us for years, looking for something specific for a project or a shop. We don’t have a big fancy showroom with bright lights. It’s mostly just shelves and stacks of material. We talk to people about what they need, show them what we have in the back, and try to make sure the orders are right. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit by the door where the light comes in from the hallway. It’s a simple way to earn a living. We know our silk and we know the people who buy it. That’s enough to keep us busy from Monday to Saturday.
