Our place is located at 5/1, right across from Street No. 10 in the Anand Parbat Industrial Area. If you’ve ever been around here, you know it’s a lot of narrow lanes and trucks trying to turn around. It’s a busy, dusty part of town, but that’s just how industrial areas are. Inside the shop at Perfect Gear Industries Ltd., the sound of the cutting machines is pretty constant. There’s usually a thin layer of oil on everything and the smell of cut metal in the air. We make gears, so precision is something the guys have to watch, even if the shop floor looks a bit cluttered to an outsider. We have piles of raw material waiting to be used and bins full of finished pieces ready for shipping. The office is just a small partitioned area in the corner where we handle the billing and the phone calls. Sometimes we have to shout over the noise of the neighboring workshops too. We grab tea from the stall at the corner of Street No. 10 when we need a break. It’s not the kind of place you’d come for a tour, but we get the work done. Most of us live nearby or take the bus in. We’ve been at this spot for years, and we know all the other shop owners around here. It’s a tough environment, especially when it rains and the roads get muddy, but we just keep the machines running and the orders moving.
