Modern Store

Modern Store is at number 85 in the Municipal Market on Janpath. If you know Janpath, you know how crowded it gets with tourists and locals looking for a bargain. Our shop is small, but we try to keep it packed with all sorts of things people might need. We have been here for years, watching the market change around us while we stay pretty much the same. The shop has an old floor and shelves that we’ve repaired more times than I can count. We start the day by sweeping the front step and setting out a few items to catch people's eyes. It gets very busy in the evenings when the sun goes down and the lights come on. We don't have a big staff, so it’s usually just one or two of us handling everything from sales to cleaning. Sometimes we talk to travelers from all over the world, which makes the days interesting. Other times, it’s just the same routine of counting change and folding up clothes or putting items back on the shelves. We don't use any fancy sales tactics or loud music. We just stay here behind the counter and help people find what they are looking for. The air is always moving because of the fans we have going, but it still gets stuffy when the market is full of people. It’s just a regular shop in a busy part of Delhi.
