MALIK HAKUMAT RAI

You can find Malik Hakumat Rai over at K 56 in Connaught Circus. Being in the middle of Connaught Place means there is never a quiet moment during the day. The building is one of those old ones with the high ceilings and the thick walls that stay surprisingly cool even when it’s boiling outside in June. Our office is reached by walking through the long white corridors that wrap around the circle. It has that old Delhi feel to it, with heavy wooden doors and floors that have been polished so many times they’re smooth. We have a few desks arranged in the main room and a small area where we keep all the files. The pigeons are always nesting on the ledges outside the windows, and you can hear them throughout the afternoon. It’s a bit of a trek from the parking lot, so we usually walk quite a bit to get here from the Metro station. There’s a sense of history in this block that you don't find in the newer parts of town. We aren't trying to be some modern startup with bright colors. We just have a regular kettle for tea and some old-fashioned desks. Most of our day is spent handling the usual paperwork and talking to people who drop by for a bit. It’s a solid, reliable place to be. Even though the city is changing, this corner of K block feels like it’s staying the same.
