Delhi is a city that is always moving fast, and Gulabi Bagh is no different from the rest of the busy areas. Our little grocery spot is located at number 209 on the Main Road, which makes it easy for people to find. It’s a tight space inside, but we manage to keep all the essentials like atta, ghee, and various lentils stacked up high. I’ve been sitting at this counter for many years now, watching the different cars and rickshaws go by on the road. It’s quite loud out there with all the honking, but inside the shop, it’s just the sound of the scale and people asking about the prices of sugar. We don't have any fancy air conditioners, just a small table fan that works when it feels like it. People from the nearby flats come in for their weekly supplies of spices and tea. We try to keep our prices fair because we’ve known everyone in the colony for a long time. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck in the heavy Delhi traffic, and we have to tell our customers to come back a bit later for their specific brand of oil or soap. It’s just how things go in a big city like this. My son helps me out after his college classes, though he spends more time looking at his phone than checking the stock. We aren't trying to be the biggest or most modern store in Delhi. We just want to make sure the neighbors can get what they need for dinner.
