Kalptaru Impex

Our office is located at 1451 Gali Chippiyanmaliwara, which is a small lane off Nai Sarak. This part of Old Delhi is very crowded and the lanes are so narrow that you can't even get a rickshaw through some of them. We have to carry most of our stuff by hand or on small trolleys from the main road. The building is quite old and the stairs are steep and narrow. We have a few rooms where we keep our records and the items we are moving. It’s always a bit dark inside because the buildings are so close together that the sun barely reaches the ground floor. We deal with impex work, so there is a lot of back and forth with the customs agents and the transporters. Most of the time we are just sitting around the desks, drinking tea and checking the lists. You can hear the sounds of the printing presses nearby and people shouting in the market all day long. It is a very traditional way of working, and we know all the neighbors by name. We don't have fancy air conditioning, just the basic stuff to get through the day. Sometimes the rain leaks in a bit near the window, but we just put a bucket there and keep going. It is just the way things are in this part of the city.
