Himalaya Kirana Store

Himalaya Kirana Store is located on the Main 25 Foot Road in Nehru Vihar, at E 11-1265. Being on a 25-foot road means there is always something happening right outside our doorstep. We are a regular grocery store, the kind where you can find anything from loose flour to bars of soap. The shop is filled with the smell of different grains and spices because we keep everything in large sacks. I start my day early, usually before the sun is fully up, to take deliveries from the mandi. It is a lot of heavy lifting, moving crates and bags around to make sure the customers can see what we have. The address E 11-1265 is a busy spot, and we have people coming in all day for small things they forgot to buy elsewhere. We don't have a computer to track the sales, just a thick diary where I write everything down at the end of the night. It is hard work being on your feet all day, but it is what we do. My kids sometimes come by after school to help me put things on the shelves, though they mostly just end up eating the biscuits. Himalaya Kirana Store has been a part of Nehru Vihar for years, and we have seen the kids in the neighborhood grow up while coming here to buy candy or snacks after play. It is just home.
