Heritage Publishers is tucked into Shop Number 19 A at Rajendra Mansion, which is part of Heritage House on Ansari Road. Darya Ganj is famous for books, and we’re right in the thick of it, near the fire station. Our shop is pretty much what you’d expect from a place that’s been around books for a while. There are stacks of paper and volumes everywhere you look. It has that specific old-paper smell that stays with you. We spend our time here talking to authors, looking over proofs, and managing the distribution. It’s not a sleek, modern office. The desks are heavy and old, and there’s always a ledger or a notebook lying open somewhere. Being on Ansari Road means we are part of a long history of publishing in Delhi. The streets outside are narrow and usually filled with people and carts moving boxes of books. It’s a bit chaotic, but it has a rhythm to it. We don't use any big words to describe ourselves. We just publish books and try to make sure the printing is clear and the binding holds up. Sometimes it gets a bit overwhelming when a new shipment arrives and we have to find space for all the boxes in our small shop. But we manage to squeeze it all in eventually. It’s a busy, dusty, and honest way to spend the day. We’ve been here a long time, and we just keep going, one book at a time.
