Ekho Foundation

Our space at 103 Pratap Bhawan on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg is right in the thick of things. It’s an older building, so you have to deal with the slow elevators and the way the hallways always smell a bit like old paper and floor cleaner. Ekho Foundation has been tucked away in this room for a bit, and we’ve filled it with so many shelves that there’s barely any room to walk between the desks. The windows look out toward the busy street, so there’s a constant sound of horns and buses, which actually helps us focus in a weird way. We have a small rug in the middle of the floor that keeps tripping people up, but nobody ever gets around to taping it down. Most people who come by are looking for other offices in the building and end up at our door by mistake, so we’ve become pretty good at giving directions. We keep a stash of biscuits in the bottom drawer for when the afternoons get long and we’re still working through the backlog of files. It’s a bit dusty, no matter how much we wipe things down, but that’s just part of being in this part of town. We don’t really have a big staff, just a few people who show up early and leave late. It’s a practical place to be, right in the middle of the city where everything is happening.
