Hari Singh Nalwa Street is always crowded. We’ve been here at 5/1193 for a good while now. Most days start with unpacking crates and checking what parts came in overnight. It’s dusty work. We handle a lot of different auto items, mostly stuff people need for their cars or bikes around here in Karol Bagh. It gets loud outside with the horns and people shouting, but we just keep to our work inside. Sometimes the lights flicker when the load is high. We spend a lot of time looking through catalogs or climbing up the back ladder to find a specific box. It’s not fancy. The floor needs a sweep pretty much every hour because of the grease and dirt people track in. My hands are usually stained with something by lunch. We eat sitting on the stools back there. Regulars stop by just to say hello or ask about a part they might need next week. It’s just how it goes here. We try to keep things organized but with so many small pieces, it’s a constant battle. The shop isn't huge, so we have to use every inch of the walls for shelving. It gets hot in the afternoons, especially in the summer. We just turn on the old fan and keep moving the stock around. That's basically our day from morning until we pull the shutters down. We often find ourselves helping someone find a bolt or a specific bulb while the tea gets cold on the counter.
