Living and working on Factory Road in Nabi Karim means you’re always surrounded by the sounds of industry. At 5723/A, we’ve got our little setup where A.B.C. Products operates. It’s a practical kind of place. The walls are concrete, and the floors are stained from years of moving heavy stuff around. We don’t have a receptionist or a waiting room with magazines. Usually, if you show up, you’ll find someone with their sleeves rolled up, elbow-deep in work. The machines have their own rhythm, and you eventually stop noticing the vibration in the floor. We get our supplies from the guys just down the road, and we send our stuff out on the same trucks that struggle to turn in the narrow lane. It’s a lot of sweat and hard work, especially when the orders pile up and the deadline is breathing down your neck. We have a small kettle in the back for making tea, which is about the only luxury we have. The air is always a bit thick with the smell of whatever we’re making that day. It’s a gritty part of town, but people here know how to get things done. We don’t bother with much talk; we just focus on the task at hand until the job is finished and ready for the customer. It might not be pretty, but the work is solid.
