Fatema Agate

Our place is over in Hussaini Mohalla 5 Hatri. It’s not a fancy office or anything like that. Mostly, it is just a workspace where we deal with agates all day. You can see the dust on the windows from the stones being handled. We’ve been here for a while now and the neighbors know us. The work isn't always easy because stone is hard and heavy. Sometimes the weather gets really hot in Hatri and we just keep the fans going while we sort through the different pieces. People come by and see the piles of raw material. It is a bit messy inside because that's just how it goes when you’re working with natural stuff. Fatema Agate isn’t a huge corporation, just some of us doing this work every morning. We start early when the light is good. You can hear the sound of stones clinking together throughout the day. The street outside is usually busy with people going to and from. We have some shelves where things are kept, but a lot of the time, things are just in crates on the floor. It’s a practical setup. We focus on getting the stones sorted and ready. Nothing is polished for show in the shop itself. We just handle the agate as it comes in and goes out. That’s the reality of 5 Hatri for us. We just stick to what we know and keep the business running.
