Bmm Grains

If you are walking around Zanda Chowk in Khambhat, you will find us right there in the Soniwada area. We are pretty easy to spot because we are right near the Bank of Baroda, and there are usually a few carts parked out front. The shop is full of big jute bags piled high with different types of grains. It gets a bit cramped inside when we have a lot of stock, but we manage to navigate around. The morning starts with us opening the heavy shutters and seeing who is already waiting outside. We have been in this spot for a while, and the neighborhood knows us well. There is always a lot of noise from the chowk, with scooters honking and people calling out to each other. We spend a lot of time weighing things out on the scales. It is not the kind of place where everything is pre-packaged and shiny. We deal with the raw stuff, and you can feel the texture of the grain when you run your hands through it. Sometimes the bags are heavy and my back hurts by the afternoon, but it is just part of the job. We do not bother with fancy displays or anything like that. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure we have enough stock for the next day. Sometimes the cat from next door comes in to sleep on the bags.
