A J Auto Spares is tucked into the Haffisha Arcade at 34/315 in Chettiangadi. If you’ve been to this part of town, you know the arcade is full of all sorts of little businesses. We are the ones with the stacks of gaskets and headlight bulbs in the window. It’s a small shop, so we have to use every inch of wall space for hanging parts. Sometimes it feels like the ceiling is getting lower because of all the things hanging from it. We spend a lot of time looking through thick catalogs or searching on the computer to find the right part for a specific car model. People come in with parts that are rusted through and ask if we have a new one. Often, we have to call around to see if someone else in the arcade has it. It’s a friendly enough place. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for customers. The lighting isn't the best in the back of the shop, so we have to use a flashlight sometimes to read the numbers on the boxes. It’s been our home for a while now. The floor is concrete and has some cracks, but it holds up fine. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in town, just the one where you can actually find that one specific bolt you need to get your car back on the road.
