Self Employed

Our office is near the Shani Mandir in Shah Bazar, Burhanpur. It’s a busy part of town and you can usually hear the sounds of the street while we work. We go by Umesh Verma & Co. and we’ve been here for some time now. Being a chartered accountant in a place like this means you see a lot of different people every day. We handle the usual stuff like taxes and audits. The office is simple, nothing too fancy, just some desks and a lot of cabinets for all the folders we have to keep. Being in Madhya Pradesh, the summers are tough, but we manage. People stop in when they are heading to the temple or just passing through the bazar. It feels like a very local way to work. We don't have a big corporate team, it's just us doing the job. Sometimes the power goes out or the internet is slow, but that is just how things go here. We try to stay on top of all the new rules coming out, which is a lot of reading. It’s a lot of sitting and checking figures over and over. We aren't trying to be the biggest firm, just trying to do honest work for the people who come to see us in Burhanpur. It’s a decent life and we know the neighbors well. Most of our days are spent with ledgers and tea. It's not a flashy life but it's ours.
