Selected Leather Crafts

You can find us over on Netaji Saroni in the Nutanganj area. The air around here usually has that heavy smell of tanned hide and glue, which is how you know you are close to Selected Leather Crafts. Our workspace is pretty old, with wooden floors that creak and big windows that let in the dust from the street. We have these heavy sewing machines that make a lot of noise when they are running. Most of what we do involves sitting on low stools and cutting pieces of leather by hand. It is messy work, and our hands are usually stained by the end of the day. There are scraps of brown and black material all over the floor, and we sweep them up into big bags every Friday. We don't have a shiny showroom with bright lights. People who want things usually just step into the workshop and see what we are working on at the moment. It gets quite hot in Nutanganj during the peak of summer, so we tend to start very early in the morning to beat the heat. We don't use any fancy robots or big automated lines. It is just a few guys with sharp knives and a lot of patience. We make sure the stitching is tight and the edges are smooth before anything leaves the shop. It is just honest labor that takes time. We have been at this for many years.
