Gramkalna Tangail Tantubay Samabay Samity Ltd.

Our group is located right in the village of Gramkalna, near Dhatrigram. We are a cooperative, which means we all work together on the weaving and the business side of things. It’s a very different environment than a city office. You can hear the looms clicking from the street. Most of us grew up in this village and learned how to do this work from our parents. Gramkalna Tangail Tantubay Samabay Samity Ltd. isn't some big corporation; it’s just us villagers trying to keep our traditional work going and make a living. We have a small building where we store the yarn and the finished cloths. It’s usually a bit dusty from the threads, but it’s a comfortable place for us. We don't have a website or a marketing person. We just make the cloth and sell it to whoever comes by or through the cooperative channels. Decisions are made by talking things out during breaks. It can be slow work sometimes, especially when the weather is damp and the yarn doesn't behave. We just focus on the quality of the weave and making sure everyone in the society gets their fair share. It’s a simple life and we are proud of what we make with our hands. There aren't any fancy titles here, just people who know how to weave well and want to keep the village tradition alive for another year.
