B L Mittal

Down here in District Bundi, things move a little slower than in the big cities. B L Mittal is located on Jaipur Road, right near the main market area. It is a good spot because we are close to everything, but it also means it gets very dusty with all the vehicles passing by on their way to Jaipur. Our building is a simple one-story structure that we have occupied for many years. We have a few rooms where we keep our supplies and a main area where we sit and talk to anyone who drops by. Most of our days are spent dealing with local trade and keeping track of what is going in and out. We do not use any high-tech systems; most of our work is still done on paper and kept in big binders. The heat in Rajasthan can be really tough in May, so we have a couple of old desert coolers that make a lot of noise but keep the air moving enough to work. We know almost everyone who passes by, and people often stop just to say hello or have a glass of water. It is a very community-focused way of doing things. We do not have a big corporate structure or fancy titles. It is just us working through the day and trying to be honest with our neighbors. Some days the market is busy and we are on our feet all day, and other days we just sit and wait for the sun to go down.
