Late Ku. Durga K. Banmeru Science College

Our college is situated on Loni Road, out towards Lonar in the Parbhani district. It’s a bit of a drive to get here, surrounded by the open landscape of Maharashtra. We focus mainly on science, so our rooms are filled with glass jars, microscopes, and those tall stools that are never quite comfortable to sit on for too long. The building is a simple concrete structure that stays relatively cool, which is good because it gets quite bright out here. We have students coming from all over the district, some of them traveling a long way on the bus every morning. There’s a quietness to the place that you only get in rural colleges. You can hear the wind blowing across the fields outside. During the rainy season, the road can get a bit muddy, and everyone shows up with wet shoes. We have a small library where it’s actually quiet, and a few labs where things are a bit more chaotic. The staff spends their time between lectures grading papers or talking in the small lounge area. It’s a place for people who are serious about their studies but don’t need anything fancy. We don’t have much in the way of extras, just the labs and the classrooms and a place to sit and eat. It’s a straightforward environment where the focus is just on getting through the syllabus.
