Education Career Center

Our office is over in Sushila Vihar II, near Raj Bhawan. It’s a quiet enough street most of the time. We spend our days surrounded by folders and stacks of paper. Students come in looking for some direction, and we try to help them figure out what to do next. It gets pretty crowded in the afternoons when schools let out. We have a couple of old desks and chairs that have seen better days. My desk is usually buried under brochures. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know the local schools and colleges. We spend a lot of time on the phone or answering the door. It’s a lot of talking. Sometimes the parents are more nervous than the kids are. We just sit them down and go through the options. It’s not some big high-tech center. It’s just a room with some files and a computer that’s a bit slow. We’ve been here at number 59 for a good while. The neighbors know us. We drink a lot of tea while we work. If the power goes out, we just open the windows and keep going. It’s simple work, really. We just try to give some decent advice and keep the files organized so we don’t lose anything. It keeps us busy from morning until late evening.
