If you drive down G.T. Road towards the Industrial Area, you’ll see where we work. Chhatwal Ceramic Industry is right in the thick of it. It’s dusty and noisy because of all the trucks passing by. We make ceramic goods here. The kilns get hot, especially in the summer months. You can feel the heat as soon as you walk into the back area. It’s hard work, but we are used to it. The floor is usually covered in some kind of white powder from the materials we use. We don’t wear suits here. It’s mostly old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. There is a small office in the front where we handle the orders. G.T. Road is the lifeblood of this place because that’s how everything gets shipped out. We’ve had some of the same workers for over a decade. They know the machines better than anyone. We don't have a big marketing department or anything like that. People just know our name from being in the area so long. It’s a straight-forward operation. We mix the clay, shape it, fire it, and then pack it up. Mistakes happen sometimes, maybe a batch cracks, and we just start over. That’s the nature of the industry. We just keep the wheels turning every day. Sometimes we stay late when a big order needs to go out by early morning.
