Iqbal General Store

I have been here at Iqbal General Store for a while now. The shop is right near the water tank in Sheopur. If you are walking past the Golden Palace Hotel, you can’t really miss us because we are just right there. It gets quite busy around here in the mornings when everyone is out getting their things for the day. The water tank is a good landmark for people who are new to this part of Sheopur. Sometimes the hotel guests wander over too. The shelves are usually full of whatever people need. It’s not a fancy place, just a regular general store where we keep things moving. The fan hums in the corner and there is always a bit of dust from the road. I spend most of my time behind the counter or checking the stock in the back. It’s a simple life. We see the same faces every day, which is nice. Sometimes the weather gets really hot and we just sit and wait for the evening breeze. The Golden Palace Hotel brings in some different people occasionally, but mostly it is just the local folks from around the water tank area. We try to keep things organized but it’s a lot of work. You just do what you can. Sheopur is a decent place to have a shop. We keep the doors open and see who comes in. It’s just how it is here. Sometimes we run out of things and have to wait for the next delivery truck, which can be late.
