Girraj Rice & General Mills

You can find us right on the Badaun Bareilly Road, in the village of Sikrori. It’s a good spot because the road is always active with people traveling between the two towns. We handle rice and some other general milling tasks here. The shed is quite large to fit all the inventory we keep on hand. Most days, you’ll see the tractors coming in from the fields to drop off their loads. It gets hectic during the harvest time, and we all have to put in extra hours. We don't have any shiny office furniture or a lobby. Usually, we just sit on the wooden benches outside during the breaks. The machinery we use is solid and has lasted us a long time. We do a lot of the maintenance ourselves because waiting for a mechanic takes too long. Life in Sikrori is mostly about the farming cycles, and we are right in the middle of it. The wind blows through the open doors of the mill, which helps with the heat. We’ve got a small group of workers who have been with us for years. They know the sounds of the machines better than anyone. We just focus on getting the rice ready and loaded onto the trucks. It’s a straightforward business. We don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. The seasons change but the work stays the same for us.
