Mahek General Store

We are located in the Gram Panchayat Shopping Center which is right near the Ramji Mandir in Balaji Nagar. It’s a busy little spot in Mahuva especially during the festivals when everyone is going to the temple. The store is called Mahek General Store and we have been here for a good while. Inside it is a bit cramped because we try to fit as much as we can on the shelves. You have to watch your head sometimes with the bags hanging from the ceiling. It is mostly me working the counter and sometimes my nephew comes in to help move the heavy sacks of grain. The floor gets dirty quick with all the feet coming in and out but we sweep it when there is a quiet moment. We sell everything from pens to pulses. It’s funny how you can tell what time it is just by who is walking through the door. The school kids come at four for their little packets of biscuits. Then the women come later to get things for dinner. We don't have any fancy displays. Everything is just where it fits. Sometimes we run out of change and have to ask the neighbor shop for some coins. That’s just how it goes here. It is a decent way to make a living and stay connected to everyone in the neighborhood.
