We operate out of J-59 in the Tarapur MIDC, and as the name suggests, we spend our days manufacturing chains. It’s a very loud place to work because of the metal hitting metal all day long. We have these big machines that take the wire and turn it into links, and you can hear them from the street. It’s a bit of a rough environment with the heat from the forge and the smell of hot metal everywhere. We’ve been here in Maharashtra for a long time and the factory has grown slowly over the years. We started with just a couple of machines and now we have several lines running at once. My desk is usually covered in blueprints and order forms, and I spend half my time shouting over the noise just to talk to the supervisors. We aren't interested in being a polished corporate office. We are a factory through and through. The workers are mostly guys from the local area who know their way around the equipment. We keep a close eye on the production because if one link is off, the whole chain is no good. It’s repetitive work but it takes a lot of focus to keep everything running smoothly. We just keep our heads down, do the manufacturing, and get the crates loaded onto the trucks every evening. That’s pretty much our whole world here at the plant.
