Sri Dhanalakshmi Wood Carving is right here at House Number 1-66. We are easy to spot because we are near the big water tank which everyone uses as a landmark around here. Also, we are directly opposite the Lotus Lamp School, so during the mornings and afternoons, there is a lot of noise from the kids and the parents dropping them off. The sound of children playing is usually mixed with the sound of our tools. Wood carving makes a lot of dust, so the floor is always covered in shavings and little bits of timber. We have various pieces of wood stacked up against the walls waiting for us to get to them. It is not a very big shop, but it is enough for what we do. Sometimes the heat makes the wood a bit stubborn to work with, but we just take our time. People walk past on their way to the school or the tank and look in to see what is happening. We don't have any flashy signs or anything like that. It is just a local workshop where we spend our days. The smell of cut wood is always in the air here, which is something you get used to after a few days. We keep our tools sharp and just focus on the task at hand. It is a simple life in this neighborhood and we are just glad to have our space near the school.
