Everest Nail Factory

We’ve been here at Ward No-2 in the Loktak Project area for a good while now. Running Everest Nail Factory takes up most of our daylight hours. It’s a busy spot, especially being so close to the bus stand in Churachandpur. You can hear the buses coming and going all day long while we work. Making nails isn't fancy work, but it’s what we do here in Manipur. The machines make a lot of noise, and there’s always dust around, but that’s just how a factory is. Sometimes the rain gets really heavy around here, and it makes the road to the bus stand a bit of a mess, but we keep the doors open anyway. People from around the project stop by when they need supplies for building things. We don't have a big office or anything, just the workspace where the actual making happens. It’s mostly just us handling the metal and making sure the sizes are right. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a bit over the years, but the bus stand stays the same kind of crowded. If you’re walking from the main road, you’ll see us right there. It gets hot in the afternoons, so we usually take a short break when the sun is at its peak. It’s a simple setup we’ve got going. Not much to look at, just a place where work gets done every day except for the holidays.
