Auto Mart

Auto Mart is situated out in the Bishnupur village post area, right near the main bus stand. Being so close to the station means we never really have a quiet moment. You can always hear the conductors shouting out destinations and the old diesel engines idling. Our workshop is a bit rough around the edges, with grease stains on the floor and tools scattered across the workbenches. It’s a family-run place, mostly just me and my brother handling whatever comes our way. We don't have a computer system to tell us what's wrong with a vehicle; we mostly go by what we see and hear. The roof is made of corrugated sheets, so when it rains, it gets incredibly loud inside. We spend a lot of time sweeping out the dust that blows in from the bus stand area. People know us because we’ve been here for a long time. We aren't a big, polished showroom. We just have a few spare parts on the shelves and a lot of old rags lying around. Sometimes we sit on the wooden bench outside during our lunch break and watch the buses pull in. It’s hard work and your hands are never really clean, but it’s what we know. We open up early and stay until the last bus leaves the stand. There’s no marketing here, just us doing our daily chores and fixing what needs fixing for the people of Bishnupur.
