The Shantiniketan Hotel Management College

Our college is located in Layekbazar, which is part of the Bolpur Shantiniketan area in Birbhum. It is a famous part of West Bengal because of the history here, but we focus on something very practical. The Shantiniketan Hotel Management College is where young people come when they want to learn how the hospitality business works. We have a small kitchen setup and rooms where they practice making beds and setting tables. It is not a huge campus like you might find in Kolkata, but we have enough space for the local boys and girls to learn the basics. Most of our students come from nearby villages and they stay in lodgings around Bolpur. You can often smell whatever is being cooked in the practical classes when you walk past the windows. The staff here are just regular people who have worked in the industry before. We deal with all the usual stuff like broken plates and students being late because the trains were delayed. It is a bit of a trek to get here sometimes if the weather is bad, but the students are hardworking. We don't bother with fancy brochures. People mostly find out about us by word of mouth in the bazaar. It is just a place to get some skills so these kids can go out and find work in hotels across the country.
