Saheb Grocery

Saheb Grocery is a small shop located in Patapur village, which falls under the Monteswar police station area in the Birbhum district. Our village is a quiet place, and the grocery store is where many of the locals come to get their salt, oil, and other daily necessities. The shop is a simple structure with a tin roof that gets quite loud when the heavy Birbhum rains hit it. Inside, we have a variety of items stored in big plastic jars and glass bottles on the shelves. We don't have any fancy signage or bright lights; it is just a regular village shop where the door stays open all day. The floor is made of hard-packed earth and concrete, and we keep it swept as best we can. Most of the people who come here are our neighbors, so we spend a lot of time talking about local happenings while we weigh out their purchases on the scale. It is a very personal way to do business, as we know exactly what each family usually needs. Sometimes we run out of things when the supply truck takes a few extra days to reach Patapur, but we manage with what we have. Life here moves at a slower pace compared to the big towns, and the grocery store reflects that. We open early in the morning before the sun gets too hot and stay until the evening when people finish their work in the fields.
