Saha Mill has been a part of Old Pandapara for as long as I can remember. We are located near the Pandapara Kalibari, not too far from the Kotwali police station. It’s an old neighborhood, and the mill fits right in with the other old buildings around here. Every morning, we open up the big heavy doors and start the engines. The sound echoes down the street, letting everyone know we are ready for the day. Most of our work comes from the people living nearby who bring in their grain or oilseeds. It is a small space, so things can get a bit cramped when there are a lot of sacks piled up. The walls are stained with years of dust and grease, but the machines still run fine if you treat them well. I grew up around this machinery, learning how to listen for a belt slipping or a motor getting too hot. We don't have a website or anything like that. People find us because their parents came here, or they just live a few blocks away. It is honest work that keeps us busy from dawn till dusk. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps during a slow hour and watch the traffic go by toward the Kalibari. It is just a local mill doing what it has always done for the community here. There’s no secret to it, just keeping the blades sharp and the oil topped up.
