Mustrad Oil Mill

The Mustrad Oil Mill is located in Village Kopai, specifically in the Albandha area near Murarai. If you are looking for us, we are right near the Bhadista Hotel, which most people around here know. The first thing you notice when you get close is the smell of the mustard seeds being crushed. It’s a strong, sharp scent that stays on your clothes all day, but we don’t mind it much anymore. The mill is a busy place, with machines humming and people moving bags of seeds around. Birbhum is a place where you have to work hard to get things done, and we are no exception to that rule. We aren't trying to be a giant factory with hundreds of workers. It’s a more modest operation where we keep an eye on everything ourselves. The equipment is older, but we know how to fix it when it breaks down, which happens from time to time. We spend a lot of time cleaning up the oil spills and making sure the seeds are dry before they go into the press. It’s messy work and your hands are always a bit greasy. Locals stop by to buy what they need, and we have a chat while the containers are being filled. There’s no fancy office or a receptionist. If you want to talk to someone, you just walk in and find whoever isn't currently busy with a machine. It's an honest day of labor in a very loud environment.
