You can find us in Chaldhowani Para, right across from the Santoshi Mata Mandir. It’s a good spot because the temple is a landmark everyone knows. We are a small team and we focus on making clothes. The sound of the machines is pretty much the background noise of our lives. We have a couple of tailors who have been with us since we started, and they are very good at what they do. The shop itself is a bit small, so we have to be careful where we put things. There are always piles of offcuts and bits of thread on the floor, no matter how much we sweep. We don't have a big corporate structure or anything like that. It’s just a few of us trying to make sure the orders are ready on time. Sometimes a customer wants something very specific and we have to go out and find the right buttons or lace to match. The neighborhood is usually quite friendly. During the festivals at the mandir, it gets very loud and busy, which we don't mind. We don't have a computer for our accounts; we still use the old paper registers. It keeps things simple for us. We try to keep the windows open for a breeze, but the dust from the street comes in too. It’s just a regular workshop where we work hard and hope people like what we make. We aren't looking to become a giant company, just to keep our machines running.
