Annapurna

Nalhati is where we are located, in the Birbhum district. It is a place that sees a lot of movement because of the local trade and the people passing through. Our building is called Annapurna and we have been here for a while now. We deal mostly with grains and the local food supply that comes through this part of the country. The walls are a bit worn out and the floor has some cracks from moving heavy bags around for so many years. You can see the dust dancing in the sunlight that comes through the small windows high up. We don't have a big office. It is just a corner with a table where we sit and talk to the traders. People come in and out all day long. Some are looking for prices and others are just here to deliver what they brought from the fields. It can get quite loud when everyone is talking at once over the sound of the fans. Birbhum gets very hot in the summer so we try to get most of the heavy lifting done in the early morning hours. By the afternoon, we are mostly just sitting and waiting for the sun to go down. We don't use any fancy talk or try to impress anyone. It is just a basic setup for basic work. That is the way we like it because it is honest and keeps us connected to the people around here.
