Abcsk Organic Private Limited is located over in Mollarpur, right on the Hospital Road. Asoke Kumar Mondal is the main person here, and the office is part of his place in Birbhum. Being on the road near the hospital means there is always some movement, with people coming and going. Birbhum is known for its red soil and the heat, and that definitely plays a role in how we think about organic farming. We spend most of our time dealing with local farmers and looking at how to keep the soil healthy without using the harsh stuff. It is a simple operation. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone in a suit. Most of us wear regular cotton clothes because it’s the only way to stay cool. The office is small and usually has a fan humming in the corner to keep the air moving. We have piles of ledgers and samples of grain or soil sitting around. It’s a very hands-on kind of business. People from the village often stop by to talk about their crops or just to say hello. We like that part of being in Mollarpur. It’s a community-based way of working. We don't have a mission statement on the wall; we just have a calendar with planting dates and a list of things that need to get done before the weekend.
